Transport for London (TfL) has launched a new service for disabled and visually-impaired travellers.

The site provides interactive information for passengers, including accessible routes between all underground stations, with details such as walking distances, numbers of steps, ramps and train gap width.

Route information can be searched for destinations across the city, encompassing 274 stations.

In addition, the site itself is designed to be accessible for all web users, with options to change the font size and colour scheme, and access keys for individuals who cannot operate a mouse.

Susan Scott-Parker, Chief Executive of the Employers Forum on Disability, commented: "Disabled people always tell us that inaccessible transport is the greatest barrier to employment ... we are looking forward to the day when the whole transport system is mapped."

Bert Massie, Disability Rights Commission Chairman, added that many disabled individuals would be encouraged to use the public transportation system if they were provided with better quality information.
