Two parish council websites in Uttlesford have won praise for their high-quality content and usability.
Hadstock and Wimbish parish councils' sites were voted by users as the best in the county among 170 parish and town councils in Essex.
The criteria that the awarding judges considered were innovation, local democracy, content, presentation and interactivity.
Councillor Isabel Fish, who is responsible for the maintenance of the Hadstock site, told The Saffron Walden Reporter: "We try and bring together lots of useful information for the community and allow villagers to contribute.
"We have a discussion board and have just started putting the village magazine online."
Councillor John Bullough, Wimbish Parish Council Chairman, added that the body was delighted with this success.
Only websites which were created and are maintained by the parish or town council were eligible for the accolade, with the winners drawn from a shortlist of four in each category.
