West Lancashire District Council has expanded its online facilities for job hunters by creating a 'talent pool' of applicants that will save time for both council staff and prospective employees.

Created to meet the council's need to recruit cleaners, the new system works by adding unsuccessful candidates to an "accessible pool of talent" so that strong applicants are not overlooked for future positions.

This has the combined effect of saving the council's time and resources, while furthering its aim to expand its online reach.

Indeed, West Lancashire District Council states that more than 80 per cent of its applicants now choose to apply online - a trend that is expected to continue.

Clive Walsh, Human Resources Manager, explains: "[At] the touch of a button we will be able to search for candidates and match their skills to the requirements of the job."

He concludes by saying that the new service represents a "win-win situation" for all concerned.

In March, West Lancashire District Council highlighted the ability to pay for council tax using online direct debit payments, available through its website.
