South Oxfordshire District Council is utilising the web to engage voters with the democratic process instantaneously.
The body will provide emails with results of today's vote, as officials seek to innovate and ensure that a wider range of citizens take part in the elections.
In addition to the email alerts, Internet users will be able to log on to the council's website and view the results as they are announced - outcomes which council Chief Executive David Buckle believes will impact upon every person's life in the district.
"We wanted to make it as easy and as quick as possible for people to get the election results on May 4th ... offering a choice of registering for text messages or email alerts, or by watching the results."
Elsewhere in England, Chelmsford Borough Council has taken advantage of modern technology using Bluetooth messaging in a bid to increase the number of young voters turning out at the polls.
