The European commission has launched a new website designed to provide a one-stop shop for tax information.
Around 500 taxes will be covered on the site, including exemptions and applicable rates, in a move to provide a "user-friendly" and "citizen-oriented" portal for users across the continent, according to Laszlo Kovacs, the Commissioner responsible for taxation and customs.
"It gives citizens, business, tax professionals, researchers and the press direct access to information that was until today only available piecemeal," explained the official.
He added that the move also allows greater transparency and enables comparison between the European Union's various tax systems.
Personal tax, company tax, excise duty and VAT are all covered on the site, along with tips on the rights of citizens and information for those travelling between member states.
The site will be updated once a year, although there will soon be additional information available for Portugal, Malta, Cyprus and Ireland, states not currently represented.
