Fermanagh District Council is celebrating after its website was adjudged to be the best local authority portal in Northern Ireland.

The site was awarded the accolade by the Society of Public Information Networks, with Chairman John O'Kane collecting the prize, reports the Fermanagh Herald.

Mr O'Kane said that government must provide excellent communication channels with citizens and the rise of the Internet has made websites increasingly vital in this.

"It is very important to provide information on all our services and, indeed, provide a range of options for accessing council services, not just to our citizens but to our visitors and those who are considering visiting our county," he remarked.

Furthermore, he praised the staff who have been responsible for maintaining the site.

Fermanagh residents can use the site to find jobs, communicate with the authority and learn more about the economic development in the region.
