Hertfordshire Safety Camera Partnership is to give web users the chance to view details of their alleged offences in a bid to boost transparency.

The authority, part of Hertfordshire County Council, will present all evidence pertaining to the charge online and at no cost to drivers, utilising a password protected system.

Officials hope that the new service will be regarded as representative of the drive towards transparency, openness and honesty, with motorists able to view photographs, site maps and camera calibration certificates.

County councillor Stuart Pile, Executive Member for Highways, Transport and Rural Affairs, commented: "This new online service will ensure that drivers with internet access [who are facing prosecution] can exercise their right to information quickly and at any time."

The partnership, which was formed in 2002, recently announced that some speeding drivers in the county will be offered the opportunity to attend a road safety course rather than having points added to their license.
