Online retail can reveal useful habit traits about customers, allowing businesses to use the data for effective marketing, it has been claimed.

The Retail Bulletin has organised a one-day conference at the Marriott Grosvenor Square to help companies address five key areas of online strategy.

Retailer case studies, legal briefings that focus on online brand protection and DDA regulations.

Skills to be learned include retaining people as loyal customers, honing successful search engine optimisation and converting surfers into buyers, as well as "how to avoid the pitfalls of negative user generated content and its subsequent damage to your brand".

Some 81 per cent of internet consumers find the products they need via search engines, according to a recent study by Forrester Research for Shop.org, making it important for groups to ensure that their website is within the radar of the search engines.

The group also stated that e-commerce is moving "full steam ahead" and is expected to experience double digit growth for several years.
