The Society of Information Technology Management (Socitm) has created a film explaining the importance of designing websites to comply with accessibility standards.

Available to both public and private organisations for a set fee, the 20-minute short film is titled A World Denied: Web Accessibility the Movie, and features a number of industry and government experts.

Anne McGuire, the Minister for Disabled People, and Disability Rights Commissioner Christopher Holmes MBE have taken part in its creation, as has Dame Jane Campbell, a Disability Rights Commissioner and Health and Social Care Policy Adviser for the Commission for Equality and Human Rights.

"Fully accessible websites for those with some form of disability become much more usable websites for everyone," comments Socitm.

Socitm is the professional association for ICT managers who work within the public sector, or work for public organisations.

It encompasses more than 1,900 members drawn from over 550 organisations, comprising 98 per cent of all local authorities in the UK.
