The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Web Science Research Initiative are to investigate e-government.

Aiming to improve both transparency and effectiveness, the organisations will hold a workshop to find ways of improving citizens' online access to authority-provided services.

The event is set to take place on June 18th and 19th and will be held in Washington DC.

Participants confirmed for the event include Carol Tullo from the UK Office of Public Sector Information and Sir Timothy Berners Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web.

W3C commented: "Internet-connected computers and the World Wide Web are revolutionising the ways in which citizens and governments relate.

"Citizens can use an increasing number of services."

In the UK, the e-Government Unit is the single largest section of the Cabinet Office and concerns itself with providing more efficient services to British Citizens online.

The body has an established deadline of 2007 to ensure the provision of proposals outlined in the Transformational Government - Enabled by Technology document released in 2005.
