Some parents will now be able to make sure their children are doing their homework, thanks to a new website.

The Studywiz site, which is currently being trialled at a number of Edinburgh schools, gives parents the chance to see what homework has been set and the marks received by their youngsters.

Furthermore, it is hoped that the portal will help to build stronger parent/school relationships, as teachers will be available for email, while parents can contribute to blogs.

Mike Damiano, manager of the UK arm of Etech, the company behind the new site, told the Scotsman: "Parents often don't really know what's going in school.

"They want to engage with their children's education but it's difficult - this is a way of helping them do that."

Figures from the European commission recently revealed that more than two-thirds of EU schools now have access to high-speed broadband Internet connections - with 90 per cent having some form of access.
