Organisations and groups are being urged to display best practice in the field of website design as part of a new initiative.
The Nominet UK Best Practice Challenge 2007, a joint plan by Nominet, the Department of Trade and Industry and other political figures, will look to reward safety and accessibility.
UK organisations, both profit and non-profit, will also be judged on other categories including diversity and openness.
Regarding accessibility, enterprises will reap rewards if their sites provide enhanced web opportunity to disabled individuals and help disadvantaged and rural communities to gain access.
Lesley Cowley, Chief Executive of Nominet, commented that the scheme would "recognise and reward those organisations, groups or individuals who have not only embraced these challenges but worked to overcome them to deliver a better, more accessible, diverse or safer internet".
Nominet is the registry for .uk domain names, managing more than five million domains.
