New statistics have revealed that web users in the UK spend more time online than those in any other European country.

The figures from digital research firm comScore show that the UK is home to the highest number of daily Internet visitors, with 21.8 million people accessing the web every day.

British Internet users also spend more days per month - 21 - online than their European counterparts, devoting 34.4 hours a month each to the web. The European average was found to be 16.5 days per month.

"This marks the first time we have released this detailed of a portrait of Internet usage across the 16 countries, making these comparisons truly revealing," Bob Ivins, Managing Director of comScore Europe, remarked.

A recent report from telecommunications regulator Ofcom found that 67 per cent of UK households were able to receive broadband services through local loop unbundling in 2006, compared with 40 per cent in 2005.
