A growing number of Britons now view the Internet as being essential to their everyday lives, according to new research.
The study by mobile operator Vodafone found that one-third of web users would be willing to give up a basic human right in order to ensure that they can connect to the Internet.
It was revealed that three million women - 13 per cent - would give up their right to vote, while two million men would give up the right to equal opportunities.
In addition, a third of those aged between 16 and 24 said that they would not be in their current job role without the Internet.
Vodafone said: "Internet access is now such an important part of life that we regard it as a modern civil liberty."
Statistics from online research provider comScore recently showed that 21.8 million Britons log on to the web on a daily basis, the highest rate in Europe.
