According to E-consultancy's second annual Charity Website Benchmarks  report, many charities in the UK are failing to make the most of the internet.

The report states that there is a lot of work still to be done when it comes to transparency and accessibility.  However many sites have improved their level of usability and communication.

120 charity websites were benchmarked for the report across six core areas: usability, accessibility, communication, transparency, responsiveness and integration.

Key results from the research showed that improvements in homepage design and navigation had raised usability scores for most charities, while responsiveness and communication had improved significantly with a rise of 116% in average scores from the previous year.

Ratings were much poorer for accessibility with just 43% of homepages meeting basic accessibility standards.  Ratings were also weak in housekeeping and transparency despite charities performing well in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
