A study conducted on behalf of ISP UK Online has found that the majority of UK small businesses have yet to discover the benefits of a website.

The study which covered 600 UK firms, found that two thirds with less than ten employees have no internet connection, and over half of those do not have a company website.

Shane Redding, chairman of the Institute of Direct Marketing, said:

"Small businesses have been relatively slow to reap the rewards that an effective online presence can bring.

He continues "There is a clear need for small business owners to better understand the opportunities available so that they can continue to thrive and compete against larger businesses."

The study also revealed that 17% of the firms are still on dial-up.
