Ofcom’s 330 page annual report gave insight into how Britons use media and technology now. It confirms that the Internet, mobile phone devices, and MP3 players are taking over the use of TV, Radio and DVD’s.

On average, a Brit will spend 50 hours a week online, on the phone, watching TV or listening to the radio. However, the mix of how much time is spent on each one has changed radically over the last few years with specific note taken about Internet use, which has grown 158% since 2002. Other research results in the report demonstrated that Britons are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their use of communications technologies.

Fewer young people now listen to the Radio, but rather seek out podcasts or search online for any shows they may have missed out on.

Ofcom reports that strong competition in the communications industry has driven down prices and the monthly household spend has decreased as a result from £94.03 in 2005 to £92.65 now.
