Careers website monster.com has announced that it has been targeted by identity thieves.

Following an investigation monster.com discovered that accounts had been compromised in an attempt to access users CVs.  Contact information was then harvested and stored on a remote server. Luckily, the server has since been located and shut down.

Although CVs tend not to contain financial information, it is feared hackers could send targeted phishing e-mails that appear to come from Monster.com.  Users could then follow directions in the email and important identifying information could be stolen.

Monster.com is currently employing an anti-phishing initiative that aims to educate its users about the threat of phishing techniques.
