The seasonal slump that online news websites experience has been reported to hit the Telegraph Media Group the worst.

Amongst all of the national newspaper websites, Telegraph.co.uk suffered the worst in December’s seasonal slump. According to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulation Electronic figures, the online news website lost more than 2.25 million unique users on the previous month, recording a figure of 10.5 million.

Market leader Guardian Unlimited (which includes guardian.co.uk and observer.co.uk) also saw a loss in unique visitors dropping down to 15.95 million, a loss of 1.5 million unique users.

Paul Thomas, MindShare investment director for publishing says that people always spend less time online at Christmas:

These figures don't surprise me, people are out more and socialise more during Christmas. However, it's not reflective of newspaper circulation. You can expect to see [online users] rise again during January and February.
