Time Warner Incorporated’s, AOL is to cut about 100 jobs from its US-based Web advertising-selling unit Platform-A as it consolidates various job functions.

The company spokeswoman Trica Primrose reported that the cuts are due to AOL spending  approximately $1 billion buying companies in the past 18 months.

AOL invested in procuring Tacoda, Quigo and buy.at in a bid to build up its Platform-A unit. The unit currently employs about 1,600 people however the buying these companies has resulted in some jobs that are duplicative.

The cuts will be complete by the end of the month, Primrose commented:

"At the end of the day, it's about consolidation".
