While some companies are just learning how to track their reputation online, others are racing ahead in the world of blogging and actively engaging in conversations every day.
Recently a new service known as Twitter has entered the blogging arena, being predicted to be even more distracting than current blogs are.
Twitter is a micro-blogging social network that allows users to post short 160 character messages to their friends. Some popular ‘twitterers’ have over 15,000 friends and their messages can have huge implications.
A recent example of the implications was demonstrated when a Complaint was launched regarding the fitting of an American cable customers, cabling. Within hours of the complaint going live, the cabling firms engineering division were at the customer’s door. It turned out that the cable company scans Twitter as part of its online reputation monitoring.
Micro-blogging social networks can also act as an excellent source of market research for companies, allowing them to research peoples thoughts regarding their market and also feedback on particular goods and services. As well as providing an excellent source of advertising.
