A new website will promote environmentally friendly attractions for Virginia tourism officials.
The website - www.VirginiaGreenTravel.org - is a guide to "certified green" tourism businesses. These will include attractions such as lodging facilities and parks. To be certified "green," a business must commit to waste-reducing activities, such as recycling and purchasing environmentally friendly products.
Also included on the website are links to outdoor adventure programs, the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail, eco-friendly events and travel tips.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality manages Virginia Green, a program that awards certification to tourism-related business that take voluntary actions to reduce harmful impacts on the environment.
