The domain name www.pizza.com was registered in 1994 and has recently been purchased by an American buyer for £1.3 million. Previously the site had been maintained at an average cost of £10 a year.

Mr Clark registered the domain name in 1994, when the world wide web was just starting and has sold it to an anonymous bidder following a week-long online auction.

Mr Clark had hoped that pizza.com would help to get a contract with a pizza firm for his consulting company. However, he sold his business in 2000, but kept paying the $20 annual fees for maintaining the domain, which he also used to sell advertisements.

The decision to sell the domain came shortly after noticing Vodka.com sell for £1.5 million in 2006. Mr Clark expressed his only regrets were that he did not buy more domain names like this one back in the 1990’s.
