Yahoo! aims to bring all of its different services together into one platform. This will be as a result of a new re-engineering project called ‘Open Strategy’.
The move will let Yahoo! users manage all information about themselves in a single place and share it with friends across the web. The services will include Mail, Sports, Search, the front page, mobile and My Yahoo. Also included will be Yahoo-owned properties such as the photo-sharing site Flickr and bookmarking site Del.icio.us.
Yahoo! anticipate the project will transform the site into a vast social network where Yahoo! users can quickly find and communicate with each other.
Ari Balogh, Chief Technology Officer, said at the Web 2.0 Expo conference in San Francisco:
“We are not building another social network. We are building social into everything we do.”
The project is also aimed at making it easier for web developers to use Yahoo! data and services for their own ends.
