New research shows how popular online newspapers are now in the UK.

14.8 million people visited a newspaper site in March 2008.  They viewed 448 million pages of newspaper content.  The findings form part of study into the usage of major daily newspaper’s online editions.  The data is based on comScore Media Metrix.

The Sun was the most read online newspaper with 4.3 million visitors.  This accounted for nearly 30% of all pages viewed. The most visited broadsheet was Guardian.co.uk with 3.6 million visitors.  This was also the second most popular site overall followed by the Telegraph Group Ltd with 2.8 million.

The second and third most popular tabloid online editions were The Daily Mail and Daily Mirror, with 2.4 million and 990,000 visitors respectively.
