Stevenson College Edinburgh strikes Gold
Nomensa, London and Bristol-based digital agency, have designed a new engaging and attractive website for Stevenson College Edinburgh, one of the largest further education colleges in Scotland, and has won Gold award status for its website in the Scottish Further Education Unit (SFEU) Marketing Awards 2008. The awards are designed to raise awareness, raise standards and to recognise success.
Home to some 15,600 students, inclusiveness and equality are paramount to the College. Stevenson approached Nomensa to design a fully accessible online experience that allowed all students, regardless of ability to access and utilise their website.
The new website is also powered by Nomensa’s content management system (CMS); Defacto, which is uniquely accessible to allow those with disabilities to manage and edit the content on the Stevenson website, and helps the college maintain their accessible website. Defacto CMS is the choice of all organisations that have accessibility high on their web agenda.
Jane Findley, Head of Marketing at Stevenson College Edinburgh agrees, and comments:
When we set out to upgrade the website, our ultimate aim was to have the best College website in Scotland, so I’m thrilled to have received this award. We were up against some tough competition, but I’m delighted the judges recognised the usability, friendliness and interactive features of our site as worthy of gold. Our user figures for the website have been growing month on month, which we are delighted by.

Research conducted on the new site found that 93% of users found the site “easy” or “very easy” to navigate. User feedback also highlighted the style of the site, the availability of course information and the ability to apply online as positive features.
