NHS Careers has launched a new website for graduates.  The website will guide students and graduates through the wide variety of careers available to them.

The website - www.whatcanidowithmydegree.nhs.uk – will alter students misconceptions of the health service. This includes ideas of low pay and the unavailability of careers for all graduates.  Alan Simmons, a careers consultant for NHS Careers, said the website:

…will be an important tool in this battle. It doesn't pretend that working for the NHS is all highs. But even when the going gets tough, NHS staff know they are doing a job that makes a real difference to people's lives. In respect of pay, a starting salary for graduates can be just as good as the private sector and in some cases it can be better.

An survey conducted to accompany the launch revealed that eight out of ten undergraduates would be proud to work in the NHS.  However the survey went on to reveal however 78% still said the NHS would not be their first choice employer and 54% would not even consider a career in the NHS.
