October 2005
The UK travel industry has seen growth in recent years as individuals have increased leisure time and travel has become more accessible, in terms of transport and price.
Alongside this, recent trends show that more and more people have access to the Internet and are using it for shopping and booking services by means of convenience.
The Report
Web Accessibility of UK Travel Websites profiles ten of the UK’s top online travel booking sites, and measured them against a series of manual and automated testing criteria that concentrate on web accessibility.
Issues such as layout scalability, accessible site structure and compatibility with assistive technologies were measured to determine how these sites are able to reach as wide an audience as possible.
The report presents a league table of results on a site by site basis drawn from the most recent cycle of checks, and summarises the guidelines and legislation against which accessibility targets are set.
The report is unique in that the methodology clearly identifies the measurable criteria in order that readers fully understand the principles when measuring website accessibility.
