Founded in 2001, Nomensa is a strategic UX design agency with a difference. We design world class digital experiences and services for an impressive roster of instantly recognisable clients, and offices in Bristol, London and Amsterdam.
As members of W3C we help shape the global best practice accessibility guidelines, and directly contribute to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Our mission is to Humanise Technology, and we believe that making websites accessible for all is a basic human right, not just a legal requirement.
In response to increased demand for our services, we are looking for a UX Consultant (or possibly two UX Consultants) to join us in either our Bristol or London office. You’ll be working from home initially, but we anticipate a hybrid pattern of office/home based working when the pandemic eases.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll join our team of over 20 UX design consultants and can expect to work on a variety of different projects, in different industry sectors, including government, healthcare, energy, telecoms, and charity. Key clients of Nomensa include the MET Office, NHS Digital, Virgin Media, and many interesting, well known charities or recognisable brands in the commercial sector.
Over 60% of our revenue now comes from the work we do with government departments, so it would be highly likely you would at some point be working to improve essential public services.
Supported and mentored by experienced and highly-regarded senior consultants, you’ll work very closely with designers, developers and clients.
At Nomensa there is no ‘typical’ day, but you might be:
- Interviewing a client’s customers to understand their behaviours and motivations
- Running research with people with disabilities to help make a client’s website more accessible
- Sifting through research findings to create a set of personas
- Developing ideas for a new information architecture
- Taking part in client workshops
- Competitor site reviews for a new client
- Working with our design team to sketch interface ideas for a new app or website
- Designing service maps to support better service decisions
This role will really suit you if you are already experienced in user research and UX, but are looking to refine your skills and take your knowledge and expertise to the next level at Nomensa. You’ll need to love research and understanding the interface and psychological barriers to human/digital interaction, and in return the work you do will have a genuine, measurable impact for our clients and end users.
What we need from you
At Nomensa, we have hired and trained brilliant UX consultants from many different academic disciplines and backgrounds, and we know that great designers can come from all walks of life.
Having been in the industry for a few years, you’ll bring some industry knowledge with you and the desire to keep improving; combined with a passion for UX, we’ll work together to develop your skills and help you be the best you can be.
We appreciate that a few years’ experience means different things for different people. Perhaps you have been in a couple of roles already, or perhaps you’re looking to move on from your first. You would have built up some knowledge in information architecture, have a good understanding of GDS and UX best practice, and have run research using a few different method types.
You might have a degree in psychology or HCI; perhaps it’s something else altogether and you’ve been working in the UX industry for a few years since. While not mandatory, experience in an agency is a plus, as is any work you may have done to help shape projects and demonstrate thought leadership.
Regardless of your background, we're looking for people with real passion and enthusiasm to learn and an ability to collaborate with people at all levels to design the best solution.
If you have excellent communication skills, an analytical mind, and care about good design, then please get in touch.
Why you’ll love us
Our people love working here, it’s a supportive working environment where you can expect to work with, and learn from, teams of highly collaborative, skilled practitioners, and we are one of the few companies within the UK to achieve gold standard accreditation by Investors in People. We are very much committed to giving everyone a strong and supportive platform for ongoing career development, and you’ll have excellent variety of projects to work on for well known clients in the commercial, charity, and government sectors.
We work hard to make our working culture one of the best in the industry. As an example, our team of Chief Happiness Officers arrange surprise events and fundraising days throughout the year. It’s an exciting, collaborative environment where we have one focus: humanising technology and designing things in the ‘right’ way.
The people you will be working with are very passionate, and have a relentless pursuit of excellence, take pride in their work, and are super-collaborators across Nomensa where we ‘think bigger’ with internal knowledge sharing and commercial ideas. If this sounds like it could be a team that suits your own ethos, then we would love to hear from you.
