With offices in Bristol, London and Amsterdam, we have one of the largest and most talented teams of specialised user experience professionals in Europe, and we are ready to offer two students a fantastic opportunity to work here as part of your industrial placement year.

What you’ll be doing

Working from our Bristol HQ, you’ll join our team of over 20 UX consultants and learn ‘on-the-job’ on a variety of different projects, in different industry sectors including government, healthcare, energy, telecoms or charity. You’ll work on a range of interesting projects for our clients in support of our highly experienced and well-regarded UX practitioners, gaining a fantastic insight into the day-to-day life of a UX professional, as well as practical skills and research methodologies.

At Nomensa the work is varied, but a typical day might involve: interviewing a client’s customers to understand their behaviours and motivations; running research with people with disabilities to help make a client’s website accessible for all; sifting through research findings to create a set of personas, coming up with ideas for a new IA, taking part in client workshops, competitor site reviews for a new client, or working with our design team to sketch interface ideas for a new responsive site. You might also be working on internal projects or conducting research for Nomensa whitepapers.

In addition to on-the-job training in our UX techniques, we run regular workshops and internal training to build your technical and soft skills and will assign an experienced mentor to provide advice and guidance. You’ll be finishing the year with practical skills and hands on experience in UX, working alongside some of the best minds in user experience, design and software engineering. For the right individuals this could also lead to future career opportunities with Nomensa.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need to be a current undergraduate who is keen to secure your ‘sandwich year’ placement as part of your degree. We’ll need you to be able to start in July or August of 2019, ideally for 12 months.

As this is a placement year position, you’ll ideally have a real passion for a career in the UX field, and you’ll need to be the type of person who gets a kick out of researching user behaviour and creatively problem-solving, and passionate about the digital world around us. Design or sketching skills would also be advantageous, but not essential.

It’s possible you have already learned about UX, or studied human behaviour or psychology as part of your degree, and gained practical research skills while doing it. For example, you might be studying a degree like Product Design, Psychology, Industrial Design, User Centred Design, Ergonomics, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction (HCI) or another related discipline, as these are very relevant to UX consultancy work.

We’re looking for placement students who have an irrepressible passion for building fantastic digital experiences, who are quick learning, able to bring a positive attitude and ideas to the team, and good at managing your own time.
