I’m delighted to welcome Alistair Duggin as Nomensa’s new principal accessibility consultant. He joins us at an exciting time as more and more organisations wake up to the value of accessibility.

Based in our London office, he will lead Nomensa’s accessibility and research projects with private, public and voluntary organisations including the Met Office, National Trust and more.

Alistair brings with him over 20 years of digital experience starting off as a web developer and emerging as a vocal advocate for accessible design.

He has worked on lots of large high-profile projects including the BBC London Olympics 2012, BBC Weather App, The Money Advice Service and was also Head of Accessibility at the Government Digital Service (GDS), where he led the creation of accessibility guidance, resources and a community to support government in meeting accessibility requirements.

It was at GDS that he introduced the Empathy Lab where, for the first time, government employees could experience how their website worked with assistive technology. Most recently, Al was Accessibility Engineer at Apple and his arrival at Nomensa marks his first move into an agency.

Over the years, I’ve worked with Alistair on several projects while he was on the client side. I always thought he would find a home here at Nomensa. He believes accessible design is good design. So do we. He believes accessibility should baked into the design process. So do we.

Upcoming webinar

Alistair will join Amanda Payne, our Head of Government Services for a webinar on Tuesday 14th July. In ‘Public sector website accessibility regulations: How to meet the September deadline’, he will share tips to help you avoid common mistakes and answer the following questions:

  • What is required to meet the regulations?
  • What does it mean to be accessible?
  • How can you review the accessibility of your website?
  • What to do when you understand the accessibility of your website?
  • What needs to be included in your accessibility statement?
  • What should you be doing after September to maintain and improve accessibility?
  • What are the benefits of making your website accessible?

Welcome to Nomensa, Alistair. You’ve joined us on our mission to make the digital world accessible for everyone.

Best roll your sleeves up, we’ve got work to do!
